Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest film, Jailer 2, has stormed past the ₹300 crore mark at the global box office within three days of its release, earning an estimated ₹317.15 crore worldwide.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel brings the 75-year-old actor back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the character he first played in the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The latest box-office figures, reported by trade tracker Sacnilk, point to a strong opening weekend for the action drama.
Strong Saturday rebound
In India, Jailer 2 has collected ₹144.60 crore in net revenue and ₹169.65 crore in gross earnings. Its overseas gross stands at ₹147.50 crore, taking the worldwide total to ₹317.15 crore.
The film opened on October 15 with ₹59.70 crore in domestic net collections. Earnings dipped to ₹37.10 crore on Friday before recovering on Saturday, October 17, when the film brought in ₹47.80 crore across 14,604 shows in India.
That represented a 28.8 per cent increase over Friday’s domestic net collection, according to Sacnilk’s estimates.
Surpasses earlier Rajinikanth hits
The sequel has already moved ahead of the reported lifetime worldwide earnings of two earlier Rajinikanth films, Kabali and Enthiran, according to entertainment reports.
Its performance places it among the actor’s highest-grossing films, although the final ranking will depend on how its theatrical run develops. Rajinikanth’s previous major commercial successes include 2.0, Jailer and Coolie, all of which recorded substantial worldwide box-office totals.
An ensemble cast
Alongside Rajinikanth, the film features prominent actors including Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the film’s music.
The original Jailer, released in 2023, became a major commercial success and introduced audiences to Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, a retired police officer drawn into a dangerous conflict. The sequel continues that character’s story while bringing together a large ensemble of stars.
With worldwide gross collections already above ₹317 crore after its first three days, Jailer 2 has made a powerful start at the box office. Whether it can match or exceed the lifetime earnings of Rajinikanth’s biggest hits will become clearer as its theatrical run continues.
