Bangladesh suffered their second consecutive defeat in the FIFA ASEAN Cup group stage, losing 1-0 to Singapore in their second match of the tournament.
After falling behind in the first half, Bangladesh pushed hard for an equalizer after the break but were unable to break through Singapore’s resolute defense. The defeat leaves the red-and-green side facing the possibility of an early exit from the group stage.
Bangladesh had also lost their opening group match against Malaysia, going down 3-0. They managed to keep the margin to one goal against Singapore but were unable to earn any points.
Jamal Bhuiyan, Jidan Yusuf, Suki and Morsalin were brought into the starting XI for the Singapore match, with Sohel Rana, Farhan Ali Wahed, Shakil Ahad Tapu and Fahmidul Islam dropping to the bench.
Bangladesh started the match in an organized manner and looked to attack during the opening 15 minutes. Suki and Rakib repeatedly advanced toward Singapore’s penalty area, but Bangladesh’s attacks broke down near the box.
The hosts gradually grew into the game and began creating more pressure as the first half progressed.
Singapore took the lead in the 36th minute. An attack developed down the left, and after controlling a cross into the box, Steart fired a shot into the net. Bangladesh goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon had no chance to prevent the opener.
Bangladesh returned from the interval determined to level the score and increased their attacking pressure. However, Singapore’s defense remained well organized and repeatedly denied Bangladesh’s attempts to create clear chances.
Despite their efforts to find an equalizer, Bangladesh could not breach the Singapore defense and ultimately finished the match with a 1-0 defeat.
The result leaves Bangladesh with consecutive losses from their opening two group-stage matches and puts their hopes of progressing to the next round under serious pressure.
