Iran has openly warned South Korea that it could face serious consequences if Seoul sends troops to the Persian Gulf or becomes involved in U.S. military operations in the region.
Tehran’s message is clear: any South Korean military involvement in the region would be regarded as direct support for U.S. attacks against Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei issued the warning in a message written in Korean on social media platform X.
Alongside the warning, Baghaei also referred to the long-standing relationship between Iran and South Korea. He noted that the two countries have maintained friendly relations for 64 years, a relationship Tehran has consistently respected.
However, Iran appears unwilling to make concessions under the current circumstances. Baghaei said Iran is fighting against what he described as U.S. attacks on Iranian civilians, including women and children.
He warned that if South Korea deploys troops to the Persian Gulf or the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, Iran would consider Seoul to be directly supporting what Tehran describes as U.S. aggression.
The Iranian official further argued that no self-respecting and responsible country should allow U.S. pressure or threats to draw it into what he called an unjustified attack on another nation.
Tehran therefore urged Seoul not to become involved in the conflict, regardless of what Washington may demand.:::
