India’s capital, Delhi, was hit by torrential rain as the weather changed dramatically on Friday afternoon. Dark clouds quickly covered the sky, followed by strong winds and heavy showers, disrupting normal life across the city. In response to the deteriorating weather conditions, the weather department issued an emergency **Red Alert** for Delhi.
The sudden downpour caused major difficulties for people who had stepped out to celebrate **Janmashtami**. Many people dressed for the festivities were caught off guard by the heavy rain and rushed to find shelter. As the rainfall intensified, several major roads were waterlogged, leading to severe traffic congestion across the capital.
The weather office reported significant rainfall in several areas, including **Palam and Najafgarh**. Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to continue across much of the city. Wind speeds in some areas could reach **50–60 km/h**, according to the forecast.
Continuous rainfall has also increased the risk of waterlogging in low-lying parts of Delhi. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and urged those who must venture outside to exercise caution.
