India has made its position clear on the recent trilateral “Mecca Defense Pact” signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, as well as the possibility of Bangladesh joining the agreement.
Asked about India’s position on comments made by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the pact, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it was closely monitoring all developments that could have implications for the country’s security.
During the ministry’s regular briefing on Friday, August 28, a journalist asked about Bangladesh’s position on the “Mecca Defense Pact” following remarks by Bangladesh’s Deputy Foreign Secretary Humayun Kabir and Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman.
In response, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that if Bangladesh decides to join the agreement, it would be Bangladesh’s own decision and should not be a cause of discomfort for any other country.
However, he added that India is closely monitoring developments that could have an impact on its national security and will take all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s security.
