Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly criticized the latest US sanctions against Tehran, describing them as acts of “state and economic terrorism.”
In a letter addressed to the UN secretary-general, the UN Security Council and its member states, Araghchi accused Washington of turning to economic pressure after failing to achieve its objectives through military action.
He claimed that the United States was now pressuring other countries to enforce sanctions against Iran, with the main objective of disrupting their legitimate economic and trade relations with Tehran.
Iran Says Ordinary People Are Paying the Price
Araghchi also argued that the sanctions are having a direct impact on ordinary Iranians.
According to him, restrictions have made it more difficult for people to access essential goods and services, including food, medicine, medical equipment, fuel and other necessities.
He warned that such measures could undermine people’s rights to life, health, food and an adequate standard of living.
Call for International Rejection of US Measures
The Iranian foreign minister urged the UN Security Council and its member states to reject and condemn what he described as “unilateral coercive measures” imposed by the United States, as well as sanctions targeting third countries.
He also called on governments not to recognise or implement the US sanctions.
Araghchi further demanded that Washington immediately stop pressuring other countries to alter their legitimate economic relations with Iran.
The latest remarks highlight Tehran’s continued opposition to Washington’s sanctions policy and its efforts to rally international support against what Iran considers unilateral economic pressure.
