How Likely Is India’s Cricket Tour of Bangladesh?

The prospect of India touring Bangladesh remains uncertain as relations between the two cricket boards have reportedly become strained over the past two years.

Tensions are said to have increased after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the Indian Premier League last year. The situation has since raised questions about whether scheduled bilateral commitments under the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) will proceed as planned.

India was originally expected to visit Bangladesh in August last year. However, the tour was postponed for a year, with security concerns cited as a key reason. The rescheduled tour is now expected to take place in August this year, but uncertainty still surrounds the proposed series.

So far, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not issued a final confirmation. According to reports from Indian media outlet India Today, the decision may not rest solely with the BCCI, as government approval could be required before the Indian team is allowed to travel.

A BCCI source reportedly said that discussions are ongoing and that the board plans to seek formal permission from the Indian government. However, no final decision has yet been made.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has proposed a tour window from August 29 to September 15. Under the plan, the two teams would play three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals.

India is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28. The proposed ODI matches are set for September 1, 3 and 6, followed by T20 matches on September 9, 12 and 13.

Despite the proposed schedule, there is still no guarantee that the series will go ahead. The final outcome is expected to depend largely on the Indian government’s approval and any official guidance it provides regarding the tour.
