Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, have been taken into custody by US authorities. The arrests come in response to a new wave of criminal charges filed against them by British prosecutors.
Key Details of the New Charges
On Sunday (July 19), the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced extensive new allegations against both brothers, stemming from incidents reported to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017:
Andrew Tate: Faces seven new counts of rape, alongside charges related to human trafficking and the possession of indecent images of children.
Tristan Tate: Faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Malcolm McHaffie, the head of the CPS Special Crime Division, stated that the decision to authorize these charges followed a review of additional evidence submitted by Bedfordshire Police. This brings the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven.
Extradition and Current Legal Status
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed that the Tate brothers—who hold dual British and American citizenship—are currently in US custody.
A spokesperson for the US Department of Justice indicated that the arrests were executed as part of the extradition process. The CPS has formally requested that the United States extradite the brothers back to the United Kingdom to face trial.
Defense Denies Allegations, Claims Political Motive
The Tate brothers have consistently denied all allegations against them. Following their arrest on Saturday evening, their defense attorney, Joseph McBride, released a statement asserting their innocence.
McBride characterized the new British charges as a politically motivated attack:
“The entire world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent. Their adversaries know this best, which is precisely why they are being targeted.”
The attorney further claimed that these new charges were fabricated in retaliation to a defamation lawsuit the Tate brothers had filed in the United States. McBride expressed confidence in their ultimate release, adding, “America does not do Britain’s dirty political work.”
Background on Ongoing Legal Battles
This is not the first legal hurdle the brothers have faced:
Previous UK Charges: In May 2025, prosecutors confirmed that Andrew (39) and Tristan (37) would eventually face 21 separate charges in the UK relating to alleged offenses committed between 2012 and 2016.
European Warrants: Bedfordshire Police had previously issued European Arrest Warrants in 2024 to extradite the pair from Romania, where they primarily reside and are currently facing separate criminal investigations.
Anonymity Dispute: In June, the brothers lost a legal bid in the UK to uncover the identities of their accusers. The CPS ruled that the alleged victims’ names must remain confidential until formal legal proceedings begin.
