Federal Judge and Police Deputy Chief Accused in Courtroom Affair, Investigation Underway

An unprecedented scandal has emerged within the United States judicial system. Federal Judge Eleanor Ross of Atlanta and Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Kelly Collier have been linked to a two-year extramarital affair that has now become part of official judicial investigation records. The matter was first reported by *Bloomberg Law*.

Details contained in documents from the judicial investigative committee are particularly striking. According to the records, Judge Ross, 58, and Collier, 55, allegedly met multiple times inside the judge’s chambers and courthouse during working hours. The encounters were reportedly so loud that court employees could hear them from outside the office.

In its report, the committee stated: “For two years, this judge regularly presided over criminal cases while simultaneously engaging in a secret romantic relationship with a senior official from a major law enforcement agency operating within her own jurisdiction.”

Kelly Collier currently serves as commander of the Community Services Division of the Atlanta Police Department and has been with the department since 1998. The Atlanta Police Department confirmed Thursday that it has opened an internal investigation into the matter.

Judge Ross was appointed in 2014 by then-President Barack Obama as a federal judge for the Northern District of Georgia. She is also married; her husband, Brian Ross, serves as a judge in Georgia state court.

The controversy extends beyond allegations of an improper relationship. The investigative committee also found that Judge Ross attended a partisan political event and provided false statements to investigators during the inquiry.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the disciplinary action taken against Judge Ross has reportedly been limited to a “private reprimand,” with no suspension or removal from office. The light punishment has sparked renewed debate over accountability and ethics within the American judicial system.

The case has drawn additional attention because Judge Ross previously presided over the high-profile criminal trial of reality television personality Todd Chrisley.

The scandal involving a judge entrusted with sentencing others has raised broader questions about transparency, ethical conduct, and public trust in the U.S. justice system.
