The United Nations has added Israel to its blacklist of countries and entities accused of committing sexual violence in conflict zones. According to a report by the Jerusalem Post, several Israeli institutions, including the country’s prison service and other authorities, have been included in the list.
Organizations such as Hamas are already included on the same blacklist.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, strongly condemned the decision. He stated that Israel would suspend cooperation with the office of UN Secretary-General António Guterres in response to the move.
According to evidence collected by human rights organizations, incidents of sexual violence committed by Israeli soldiers and settlers have increased dramatically since the beginning of the war in Gaza.
