BCB to penalize five cricketers over BPL fixing scandal

Five cricketers are set to face disciplinary action for their involvement in match-fixing during the 2025 edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Tamim Iqbal, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee, confirmed the development during a press conference held at Mirpur on Thursday. The decision follows a probe into the allegations that surfaced during the controversial tournament season.

The move comes after an independent investigation committee submitted a comprehensive 900-page report to the board last year. While the specifics of the report had been kept under wraps, the BCB has now moved to implement the recommendations. Tamim explained that while he was not part of the initial data collection or investigation phase, the board decided to move forward with the sanctions once presented with sufficient evidence. He further noted that the identities of the players and the details of their punishments would be officially disclosed through a formal press release.
